Towards A Sustainable Future: A Personal Perspective

Young Arab Leaders hosted another successful Power Lunch with Dr. Nawal Al Hosany on the theme of “Towards A Sustainable Future: A Personal Perspective” on August 18th Thursday at 12:00-2:00pm at the Majlis Room of Capital Club DIFC, Dubai. Power Lunch is an exclusive event hosted by prominent figures who share their knowledge and experiences with YAL members.

Dr. Nawal Al Hosany, Executive Director of Sustainability and Brand, leads the development of Masdar’s sustainability benchmarks and policies and ensures the company adheres to the highest standards of ethics and best practice. Dr. Al Hosany also heads the marketing & communications department responsible for building and safeguarding the company’s global brand, and oversees the implementation of the objectives, mandate and strategic direction of the Zayed Future Energy Prize. In addition, she is an Adjunct Professor and member of the External Advisory Board at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.

Dr. Al-Hosany has been published globally in international journals and newspapers, including the International Journal of Management of Environmental Quality, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Renewable Energy, and International Journal of Renewable Energy Engineering. Throughout her career, Dr. Al Hosany has been an active member of various boards in the UAE and around the world including the Advisory Panel for the Momentum for Change initiative of the UNFCCC, the Troika Plus of Women Leaders on Gender and Climate Change, and the Energy Efficiency Global Forum.

Dr. Al Hosany is the program director of the UAE-led Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER) initiative, which aims to encourage more women to be involved in innovative solutions to the world’s energy and climate challenges. She also served as Sherpa to the UN Secretary General High Level Group for ‘The Sustainable Energy For all’ initiative for its Principle, HE Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chairman of Masdar.

In 2015, Dr. Al Hosany received the Arab Woman Award, recognising inspirational, talented and deserving Arab women, in the Energy category and she was named as one of the 40 most influential Emiratis who have helped shape the emirate by Abu Dhabi Magazine in 2011. She has received several medals and accolades for her professional achievements, including a Chevening Fellowship from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Emirates Business Women Award in the Professional and Career Achievements category.

Prior to assuming her current roles, Dr. Al Hosany held senior leadership positions with the General Headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Police, including Head of Design and Studies in the Engineering Department. In 2007, she became the first-ever female Deputy Director in the Abu Dhabi Police.
